The war is haunting Europe and in Paris the fashion family of Paris Fashion Week® has gathered since yesterday. That's why Ralph Toledano, Président de la Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode has issued a statement on the holding of the shows on 28 February.

"Creation is based on the principles of freedom, whatever the circumstances. And fashion has always contributed to individual and collective emancipation and expression in our societies.

Given the current context, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode encourages you to experience the shows of the coming days in a solemn setting and in remembrance of these dark hours."

Ralph Toledano, Président de la Fédération de la Haute Couture

Two years after France's Corona Lockdown, Paris Fashion Week is back and most houses are returning to live shows. Women's fall-winter week kicked off yesterday (Monday) with the presentation of the last collection by Off-White, whose founder Virgil Abloh died of cancer last November at the age of 41. His label is considered to have the same importance as the New Look created by Christian Dior in 1957.

At Milan Fashion Week, which has just ended, attendees were also distracted by the happenings in Ukraine, but only Giorgio Armani's show on Sunday made a significant statement. He turned off the music to hold his fashion show in silence - out of respect for the people caught up in the Ukraine conflict.

It was an eerie silence on the runway, punctuated only by the audience's applause. Giorgio Armani tweeted "My decision not to use music was a sign of respect for the people affected by the tragedy in Ukraine." In a subsequent interview, the designer confessed that his show was meant to send a message that the fashion world did not want to celebrate because something very disturbing was happening.
