Dusseldorf, 1 November 2022: Artist and human rights activist Mohammad Barrangi Fashtami is exhibiting his Playing in Wonderland project at Attenborough Arts Centre, the gallery within Leicester University. On display are new paintings and also sculptures by the Iranian artist, who lives in England and is attracting attention on the international art scene. Special attention is paid to a Moasik artwork consisting entirely of portraits of women. Barrangi launched an appeal on social media just a few weeks ago in the wake of the riots in Iran, asking women for their portraits to create a work of art as a message of support for the women of his country. His call received a great response, with submissions from Saudi Arabia, Mexico and even the USA, as well as from women in hijab from Iran and Pakistan. The photos in the artwork, which are shown in red, are portraits of girls and women who have lost their lives. The artist hopes that his artwork and the message of the women will be further shared on social media.

Also on display in the exhibition is an artwork showing a sculpture of a female rider, for him the symbol of freedom.

Barrangi wrote in a personal message to Alethea Magazine: "The main characters of my work have always been women. The women of my country, of Iran.... And this work is a dancing girl with a crown on her head.... This image is a symbol of freedom for me and maybe for all of us....Perhaps I am more happy to see my work on the social pages than I am to see the courage of myself and my compatriots. I am happy to see the women of Iran and the women of the world join hands and revive this courage and strength in us men and even in the world."
