Düsseldorf, 24 April 2023: In Poland, near Szczecin, Agata Reul, birth name Wójcik, was born. Her grandfather was a butcher, her parents ran a gastronomic business on the Baltic Sea. Through her grandmother in Poland she learned how to cook and how to run a household. At first she hesitated between being a cook and a florist. After studying law for a few semesters, she left her Polish homeland 17 years ago to seek her fortune in Düsseldorf.

Today, she is the only Polish woman in Germany who owns a starred restaurant At the age of 27, she became a chef's apprentice in Düsseldorf's trendy  place and Michelin-starred restaurant Victorians, located just a few steps from Königsallee. But Agata Reul's long-term goal was to open her own gourmet restaurant one day.

When she moved to Düsseldorf, she also found happiness in her private life

That's how she met her future husband Bertold Reul, the then manager of the well-known Nikko hotel in Düsseldorf, who came from Aachen. Later, Bertold Reul became the hotel manager of the Derag Living Hotel De Medici. We had already reported on the Medici Hotel (on Alethea Talks). Located in Düsseldorf's old town, it houses art from the late Middle Ages to modern times, collected by the sadly deceased senior manager Dr Max W. Schlereth.

First star in 2013

In 2012, at the age of only 31, Agata Reul opened the restaurant named after her in a former corner pub in the Pempelfort district.

In 2018, she moved her team to the Living Hotel Düsseldorf on Kirchfeldstraße in Unterbilk. Agata's has been crowned with a Michelin star since 2013 and has defended it every year - the Corona pandemic notwithstanding. In numbers, this means that Agata's has 40 seats and says it has created around 400 courses in recent years. Agatha Reul describes her new chef Marcel Förster as a particular stroke of luck. So now her cooking has been awarded a Guide Michelin star for the tenth time in a row: "We are full of joy and absolutely overwhelmed that we were able to defend the star for the 10th time in a row and that we have also been awarded the Michelin Star 2023," says Agata Reul about the award and adds: "Everyone here in the team has played their part in this star, because the last few years in particular have been very emotional and challenging“.

Agata Reul has further expansion plans. For example, she runs the burger shop "Food Brothers" on Ratinger Straße in Düsseldorf. She has just expanded as a franchisee of the chain of the same name with branches in Warsaw.
