Künstlern stehen wie Journalisten und Aktivisten an der vordersten Front, Wahrheit zu finden und zu schützen. Denn durch Kunst kann Wahrheit deutlicher zum Ausdruck kommen. BILD TV stellt aus aktuellem Anlass die Frage „Was darf Protest“ an einen der wichtigsten internationalen Vertreter der Aktionskunst, HA Schult.

Aktion Trash

Das wichtigste Protest Material, das HA Schult verwendet, ist Müll, als Material der Verweigerung und Provokation. Eine der ersten Aktionen fand 1969 in der Schackstrasse in München statt. In Venedig kaufte er 1976 für 60.000 DM alte Zeitungen und verteilte sie auf dem Markusplatz. 1983 schuf er ein ähnlich mahnendes Szenario in der Washington Street, New York City. 

Im Jahr 1977 ließ er in den USA eine Cessna samt Piloten auf das Müllfeld von Staten Island abstürzen. Der Pilot kam dabei nicht zu Schaden, und das Spektakel wurde gleichzeitig per Satellit nach Kassel auf die Documenta 6 übertragen.

Zu der Reise der Trash People und deren Hintergrund hatten wir einen Artist-Talk wiedergegeben, den HA Schult mit der österreichischen Kunsthistorikerin und damaligen Direktorin des Grazer Joanneum Museums, Dr. Christa Steinle am 7.10.2006 im Palais Herberstein führte.

Because through art, truth can be expressed more clearly. Action Trash

The most important protest material HA Schult uses is trash, as a material of refusal and provocation.

One of the first actions took place in Schackstrasse in Munich in 1969. In Venice, he bought old newspapers for 60,000 DM and distributed them on St. Mark's Square. In 1983, he created a similar cautionary scenario on Washington Street, New York City. 

In 1977, in the USA, he crashed a Cessna, complete with pilot, onto the Staten Island rubbish field. The pilot was not harmed, and the spectacle was simultaneously transmitted by satellite to Kassel for Documenta 6.

We reproduced an artist talk on the journey of the Trash People and its background that HA Schult had with the Austrian art historian and then director of the Joanneum Museum in Graz, Dr. Christa Steinle, at Palais Herberstein on 7 October 2006.
