A manifestation of feelings

It is a severe contrast. In Europe there is war and in Paris the Paris Fashion Shows took place. Ralph Toledano, the Président de la Fédération de la Haute Couture had confirmed that the shows would take place and encouraged guests to "experience the shows of the coming days in a solemn setting and in remembrance of these dark hours." (Read Paris Fashion Week® Statement on the War)

When the VALENTINO PINK PP COLLECTION AW 22 23 was previewed at Le Carreau du Temple on Sunday the 6 March, 2022, Pierpaolo Piccioli started his show with a speech by expressing his deep concern and ended by saying that love for all people is the way to solve all problems.

Pierpaolo Piccioli is a master of cuts, a visionary, always inventing new forms. He can draw on a rich archive of Valentino creations, which are interpreted in a contemporary way. The presentations of his shows is art.

Time seems to stand still.

Experimentation of a radical gesture

Just before the fashion show began, icon and new Valentino muse Zendaya arrived, beautiful and personable, in a pink pantsuit and pink cape.

Zendaya is the face of Valentino's Rendez Vous campaign. Other star guests included Bridgerton' newcomer Simone Ashley as well as Maluma and The Crown actress Vanessa Hudgens.

For the VALENTINO PINK PP COLLECTION AW 22 23, Pierpaolo Piccioli designed the dresses with the experimentation of a radical gesture. The color palette was reduced to a single shade, a special fuchsia pink. The designer created his pink in collaboration with the Pantone Color Institute. The color pink created a unique identity in the show, it was an absolute individuality and is unrepeatable in itself.

All elements of the backdrop were in the exact same shade and the models walked down a shiny pink catwalk. According to Vogue, Pierpaolo Piccioli decided to do this "to avoid distractions and focus the viewers' eyes on the differences between silhouette and details."

The pink dresses in the show harmonized even in different fabric variations, even every button, zipper or fitting was pink - this also a masterstroke of Italian craftsmanship.

Despite the monochromatic nature, and after
initial visual shock, the viewer could see that the subtraction was indeed an enhancement that magnified both the people and the clothes.

Pink

Pink has always played an important role in the fashion world - think Elsa Schiaparelli's obsession of pink, Marilyn Monroe's pink gown in which she sings "Diamonds are a Girls best friends" or Audrey Hepburn long pink cape with train in "Funny Face". But never before has this color been staged so radically and skillfully as by Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Fashion

VALENTINO PINK PP COLLECTION AW 22 23 was clear and precise. The cuts presented showed large volumes shaped by geometric folds on the body. Sensual s-shaped lines, very short hemlines, cinched waists. But enhanced with fine Valentino bows, ruffles, petals, lace and embroidery. Pink is associated with traditional notions of femininity, but in the collection Pierpaolo Piccioli used the color in menswear as well.

Black entered the runway with Look 41, the most beautiful and elegant combination with pink garments. 32 looks with elegant clear structured silhouettes adorned with floral embellishments and embroidery.

It was not a delicate feminine look but a strong statement. Models stood on massive platforms. A new variety of iconic elegantly reduced bag creations in pink or dark pink or pink or dark glitter.

Celebration of a color - Fashion or Art

The reinvented PP pink was celebrated in infinite dress forms and accessories and is an experimental but deeply human gesture that creates a unique identity, in itself individual and unrepeatable. Is it Fashion or Art?

It is hoped that the new Valentino pink can be enjoyed in future fashion collections. In any case, the new pink bag creations are sure to soon be recognized in every townscape.
