Düsseldorf, 26 October 2022: A woman's wardrobe should have some essential components like a black elegant dress, a designer handbag...one could continue this list endlessly. But every wardrobe should also have a red dress and if it does, that dress should be Valentino. A red Valentino dress is legendary. For the founder of Maison Valentino, seeing a lady in a red dress at an opera one evening was a key element. The love of the red dress was passed on and today there are over 500 Valentino reds in the archive. For the designers of the Maison, from founder Valentino Garavani to the current sole designer since 2016, Pierpaolo Piccioli, red is the most passionate, seductive, powerful and culturally symbolic colour.

A further development of red is PP Pink, an artistic movement with which Piccioli emotionalises people far beyond fashion. Back to the red dress: in cooperation with art book publisher Assouline, Maison Valentino gives an insight into its archive and shows the most iconic red creations of dresses, handbags and accessories in a definitive catalogue. The texts are by Charlie Porter, writer and curator, whose most recent book is What Artists Wear. He writes for titles such as the Financial Times, the New York Times, i-D, The Guardian, British GQ and was a judge for the Turner Prize 2019.

Alethea had previously reported on Rosso. Now the Maison has released new photos from the book that are so beautiful we have to show them all.
