Düsseldorf, 6 December 2022: Since 19 November, following last year's Peter Lindbergh exhibition, the beautiful Galician port city of A Coruña has been the venue for: "Steven Meisel 1993 A Year in Photographs en A Coruña". It is organised by the Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP Foundation) and takes place in A Coruña's new museum, Muelle de la Batería space. A Coruña, also called the City of Glass because of its famous glazed balconies, and known for its Torre de Herculés, has been an inspiration for artists, writers and photographers ever since.

Steven Meisel

The year 1993 occupies a special place in the artistic career of New York-born photographer Steven Meisel. For during this period he shot 28 covers for international Vogue editions and over 100 editorials and campaigns with 1990s supermodels such as Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington, with whom his photographic work is forever associated.

Steven Meisel's studio curated the image selection itself, so it covers not only fashion but also culture. 100 portraits are on display, including Linda Evangelista, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Hamish Bowles, Kyle MacLachlan, Claudia Schiffer, Jaye Davidson, Barbra Streisand, Marlon Richards, Isabella Blow, Amanda Harlech and Twiggy. Steven Meisel is considered one of the most important and prolific fashion photographers of his generation. The focus of his work, whether it is in black and white or colourful, is always an individual connection to his subject. Also significant was his collaboration with Madonna for her book Sex, then No 1 on the New York Times bestseller list ,and which at the time was considered the most successful coffee table book of all time.

Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP Foundation)

"Steven Meisel 1993 A Year in Photographs" is a project of the Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP Foundation). Marta Ortega Pérez is the daughter of Amancio Ortega and designated chairperson of the Inditex board of directors. The MOP Foundation focuses on three pillars: A Coruña, photography and fashion. It has an exhibition space on the A Coruña waterfront designed by architect Elsa Urquijo. Elsa Urquijo is the Ortega family's trusted architect. She is the architect of his house in A Coruña, for example, and has just redesigned the concept of Zara Home, in addition to business concepts.

Last year, the museum also hosted the exhibition Untold Stories with works by Peter Lindbergh, which attracted more than 110,000 visitors and gave rise to the creation of the MOP Foundation in 2022.

The Visit of Trash People Circular Valley Forum Ansgar Van Treeck

Art Calendar / Environment / Business, 19 November 2022

HA Schult's Trash People at the Circular Valley Forum in Wuppertal on 18 November 2022."Check the thing you want to throw away and don't give it away. It is the mirror of yourself. Don't betray your soul." 600 decision-makers from business and politics came together, including environmental activists from the early days such as HA Schult and former Federal Environment Minister Klaus Töpfer, described by the Forum as the "father of the circular economy". The participants were surprised by the Trash People, many of whom had never seen the artworks up close before. But the performance also shows what role artists play. They are not among the decision-makers, but art has the power to unite and emotionalise people, as it did on this evening.
