Pierpaolo Piccioli wants to define the codes of men's fashion with his Valentino Essentials collection.

The visionary shares: At this historic moment, there is a debate about the end of streetwear and the return of formal wear for men.

So what wardrobe should a man own? The answer: oversized unisex jackets, pyjamas, foulard shirts and even jumpsuits.

So what wardrobe should a man own? The answer: oversized unisex jackets, pyjamas, foulard shirts and even jumpsuits.

Especially at the end of the Corona years, luxury fashion brands seemed to outdo each other with a fireworks display of creativity and bombastic staging. What is striking is how strong and self-confident the new generations are. The designers give them the freedom to wear what they want, whether it is a men's or a women's model. They do not set any rules and this can also lead to confusion.

Debate on the end of streetwear and the return of formality

But now Pierpaolo Piccioli wants to define the codes of menswear with his Valentino Essentials collection. The visionary shares: 'At this historic moment, there is a debate about the end of streetwear and the return of formal wear for men. For the Valentino chief designer, a historic moment has come to debate whether streetweat is coming to an end. The formal wear, or codes, were staged by Tommaso Garner @tommasogarner (Artistic Director) and Vittorio Maria Dal Maso along with an AI generated to explore the relationship between artificial intelligence and fashion.

You can get a glimpse of what formal wear for men can look like in the campaign photos. Pierpaolo Piccioli says: "Streetwear is not over. Formal wear has evolved from the 'bossy attitude' that has always characterised it. When the attitude changes, everything changes - it's a question of perception. The new generations are incredibly strong and confident, they don't have to commit to what they wear, they take what they like, whether it's a men's or a women's model. In the new generations there's more fluidity and self-confidence and less rules."

The most interesting thing that has happened in fashion in the last 20 years.

From this, Piccioli tries to develop and reinforce certain codes in his collections, such as a jacket, trousers or a lace shirt, regardless of who wears them. "In the last twenty years, men have changed because the male figure, after centuries of immobility, has been put to the test by the new role that women have taken on. This is the positive change to report. It is a way of being oneself. That's the most interesting thing that's happened in fashion in the last 20 years."

So what wardrobe should a man own?

Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli selects the most important menswear essentials: Jackets, foulard shirts, trousers, outerwear, pyjamas and jumpsuits. The fits are loose and the sizes - indicated on the labels as I, II, III - become unisex. The jacket has an oversized fit and can be combined with long trousers or shorts, as an interrupting element in a formal fashion approach. The white lining is said to be a nod to the tailoring of the house of Valentino. Pyjamas have become a hallmark of the house in recent seasons and the foulard shirts, first presented in Valentino's F/S 2022 Rendez-Vous collection, have become an icon and order of the house. Another model that Piccioli recommends is the men's jumpsuit. You don't have to sit in a racing car for this, like Valentino ambassador Lewis Hamilton, but wear it for every day. Particularly striking, it features the Toile Iconographe pattern, which was showcased on the runway in Paris at the Unboxing Valentino Spring/Summer 2023 show.

To complete the wardrobe, a suggested men's handbag is the Valentino Garavani Locò bag and Valentino Garavani One Stud XL sneakers.

HA Schult's Trash People at the Circular Valley Forum in Wuppertal on 18 November 2022."Check the thing you want to throw away and don't give it away. It is the mirror of yourself. Don't betray your soul." 600 decision-makers from business and politics came together, including environmental activists from the early days such as HA Schult and former Federal Environment Minister Klaus Töpfer, described by the Forum as the "father of the circular economy". The participants were surprised by the Trash People, many of whom had never seen the artworks up close before. But the performance also shows what role artists play. They are not among the decision-makers, but art has the power to unite and emotionalise people, as it did on this evening.
